Etsy Design Awards 2015

Happy Friday!

Did you see the Etsy Design Award winners 2015 were announced? I am a huge Etsy fan, shopper, seller... It is a great Community based marketplace and has led me to find and become friends with artisans all over the world. I think it is great that they are highlighting this talent and awarding it with some rad prizes! Not to mention awesome publicity.... Go take a look at the talent!

Some favourite finalists of mine.... across various categories:

As usual a stellar amazing list of judges, including Jen Bishop from Interiors Addict, Helen Souness from Etsy, Claire Bradley from Inside Out and Ewan McEoin from National gallery of Victoria.

Community choice prize winner was Tree change dolls, an amazing shop based in Tasmania. She has won a trip to Brooklyn which is where the HQ for Etsy is... if you didn't know that :)

Happy Friday, have a great weekend!

Perhentian Paradise - Tropical Camping

So I turned 33 on Sunday, not entirely sure how I feel about that but we spent it on a beautiful island on the east coast of Malaysia to forget about civilisation..

The Perhentian Islands in the Gulf of Thailand are nestled off the East coast and accessible by boat from Kuala Besut, a little port town that services these havens of paradise.

We were looking for something different and due to the island being famous for diving there are lots of resorts and fancy looking places which isn't really us. We stumbled across somewhere called Rainforest camping Perhentian, it did not disappoint. A 'built by hand' style, cheap as chips, rustic, simple and all bundled up in a beautiful rainforest on a sandy coral beach. I am not sure it gets much better..

It is run by an awesome bunch of staff including travellers passing through bringing different cuisines, language and talent to the plate. The beauty is in the small things, they use recycled beach finds to make decorations in the cafe that serves food throughout the day including a bbq for dinner.

The answer is yes, it was bloody hot camping in Malaysia! And for those who know me well know I get super hot but luckily it cools at night and if you're lucky you will see fireflies!

Get there before it changes....

Mango & Coriander Tossed Chicken

Happy Monday!

I made a pretty tasty salad last week and thought I would share it. The dressing is the winning element.... from an unlikely combination.

Mango and Coriander Chicken

2 ppl
Time: 30 mins all up

  • 2 small chicken breasts
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp fresh ground chili
  • 1/2 cup coconut flakes
  • 1/2 avocado
  • Big handful of mixed tomatoes, chopped in half.
  • handful mixed leaves (whatever you fancy)
  • 1 small bunch coriander
  • 1/2 mango, diced.
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped.

  • Mix together 1 tbsp coconut oil with the fresh chili. Roll the chicken in the mixture then roll it in the fresh coconut.
  • Put this in an oven proof dish and bake for around 20 minutes.
  • Mix together half the fresh coriander with the tomatoes, onion and the avocado.
  • In a blender mix the mango with 1 tsbp of coconut oil and a nice handful of coriander, a dash of salt n pepper too, blitz it..
  • Drizzle this over the tomato salad and give it a toss. Plate up the mixed leaves then top with salad and the baked chicken, sliced.
  • Serve and let your taste buds be delighted.

Amazing colab alert! ''Smile Makers for you feet "

Rollie have collaborated with the fabulous Enemies Yay, a label under which Laura Blythman and Pete Cromer work together designing a colourful and fun range of artworks and products.

The result is a range of 3 styles on their classic Derby shoe! They are a low rise loafer made from leather uppers and canvas/leather linings with a rubber soles. Super comfy sounding to me :)

Teysha - Boots With Heart & Sole

Magical Find!

Teysha, ''We exist to empower people, communities, art forms, and the environment to thrive and create a better world. We do this through the creation of our goods and the entire ecosystem that is involved.''

Locally sourced leather and handwoven textiles handmade into boots and accessories for all the world to enjoy. Take a look at their website for lots of information and amazing photographs.  I was so excited when I found this, words cannot describe! I know a few people who are going to LOVE these... and the heart behind it.

So bloody cool. They work direct with artisans and shoemakers in Guatemala, central America to bring incredible handcrafted boots and other beautiful products to people like you and me.

Each textile is handwoven and makes them pretty unique, another amazing thing about this venture. You can see all the steps here.

Essentially you design your boots, you choose your textile (um, yup!) style and colour of boot leather and even the type of sole you want. They are then tailored to your measurements and are handmade in every sense of the word. Every piece used is locally sourced, from each metal stud to the leather and rubber used.

There are so many great things about Teysha, they are a proud B corp that are cultivating a vibrant new world and I think they are just fantastic.

I have spent approximately 2 hours looking at the styles and textiles, dreaming about a future purchase. I might even contact them about designing a print, how cool would that be?

Find them on social media @teysha_is

Tiny Drawings - Tiny.Art

Hi there,

Do you love tiny things as much as I do?

Well well, I happen to have found a super cute IG called and it is just gorgeous. Steph from the central coast in Australia draws teeny tiny beautiful illustrations of all sorts of things from flowers to star wars to artist's work. She works in themes and has a few lovely collections too.

I have picked a few of my favourites, I love the use of other objects to show how tiny they are. Such intricate pieces of artwork, delicate and precious like the things themselves. You'll see.

She is drawing one tiny painting for every day of the year, 2015. Incredible.

Ahhh, that feels good doesn't it, to look at something so wonderful! Currently you can contact her through her Instagram account to purchase them, I am hoping that they will be somewhere else soon too as they are simply stunning.
