New Years Wintery Walks - Basildon House

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a fab start to 2016 ( Not that I can believe it myself!)

We started the year with a family trip to Basildon Park and house, a beautiful old 18th Century Georgian house and grounds run by the National Trust near Reading, England. My UK trip is coming to an end so I am relishing wearing coats and scarves :)

Even though we had the worst weather it was still stunning. Incredible green grounds with lovely walks and as it was Christmas there were still fairy lights strewn throughout the trees and forest. At night I imagine it would have been quite magical.

The house itself still has an original 1950's kitchen which I loved, full of amazing kitchen paraphernalia and goods from the era. Parts of the house and grounds were used to film Pride and Prejudice as well as Downton Abbey. It was wonderful walking around the grand house and imagining all the parties that would have occurred back in the day...

The pinecone is a strange story, apparently in National Trust venues if there is a pine cone on a seat it means you are not allowed to sit on it! I thought that was rather cute...

Wishing everyone a wonderful start to the year wherever you are!

Katy xx
